Frequently asked

Everything worth knowing before you march. Still stuck? Reach us on the contact page.

What is Hollowmarch?

Hollowmarch is a 3D survivor-style MMO for Windows, macOS and Linux. You explore a shared top-down world, fight through wave-based events and ever-changing dungeons, hunt for loot, and grow your character — on your own or with others.

How do I get into the playtest?

Access is granted in waves. Create an account and join the waitlist on your account page. When your wave is up, the launcher signs you in and downloads your build — until then it simply tells you you're not in a wave yet.

What platforms and hardware do I need?

The playtest runs on Windows (64-bit), macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel) and Linux (x86-64), installed through the launcher on the Download page. Most computers from the last several years run it comfortably:

  • Minimum — Windows 10, macOS 12, or a modern 64-bit Linux · dual-core CPU · 4 GB RAM · integrated graphics · ~2 GB free space · broadband internet
  • Recommended — quad-core CPU · 8 GB RAM · a dedicated graphics card from the last few years
Is it free? Will it cost money?

It's free to play during the playtest. Whether and how we monetize later hasn't been decided yet — and we'll be upfront about any change well before it happens.

Will my character be wiped between test phases?

Possibly. This is an early playtest, so characters and progress may be reset between major phases as systems change. If a wipe is coming, we'll announce it in advance — never as a surprise.

Is my progress saved between sessions?

Yes. Your character, level, gold and inventory are saved online, so everything's waiting for you when you log back in (aside from the phase resets noted above).

Why does my OS warn that the launcher is unsafe?

The launcher isn't code-signed yet — signing certificates come with the beta — so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper flag it on first launch. It's expected and safe. The Download page has the exact click-through for each OS, and only the first launch warns.

How do I report bugs or give feedback?

Send it through the contact page. Clear reproduction steps and your platform help us the most — playtest feedback directly shapes what we build next.

Is it multiplayer? How does that work?

Yes — it's an MMO, and that's the twist: most survivor games are solo, Hollowmarch isn't. You'll run into other players out in the world and team up for events (up to eight) and dungeons (parties of four), or head out on your own. Every class can go solo, but the hardest content rewards a well-matched party whose classes build on each other. More social features are on the way.

What are events?

Events are open, drop-in wave battles out in the world — up to eight players can join one while it's running. They're your main way to level: survive the waves and you're paid out in XP, gold and loot.

What are dungeons?

Dungeons are the challenge — procedural and built for a party of four, so no two runs are the same. Each is a series of rooms full of escalating waves; clear a room and your group votes on where to go next. Some rooms carry modifiers that make them tougher but pay out more. No group of your own? Use the dungeon finder — its matchmaking pulls together a balanced party (a good spread of classes) whenever it can, so you're never locked out for want of friends online.
